Police within ‘E’ District intend to expand an initiative, which aims to circulate mobile phone text alerts to various groups including businesses who have registered their mobile telephone number with Police. The areas within ‘E’ District are Armagh, Banbridge, Craigavon and Newry & Mourne.
For those within the District who may have previously registered for the police text alert scheme within their particular area, this is an expansion of that scheme and I would request that you complete a registration form to indicate that you still wish to receive the text messages.
This initiative is called Police Text Alert/Community Information and the owner or manager (or both) of business premises are asked to register their mobile telephone number with Police. The registered users will receive live text alerts (SMS) relating to incidents in the area or giving general information, which may be of interest to them. An example of a text alert may be regarding a missing person or a crime incident such as robbery or a stolen vehicle. We want registered users to contact us immediately regarding any information they may have relating to a text alert.
The initiative is aimed at persons who are regularly out and about in the area and who may be able to assist police. All business premises throughout the area are encouraged to register their mobile number with Police to receive the text alerts and community information.
It is anticipated that key personnel within each of the policing areas, such as Communications staff, Sector Inspectors and Neighbourhood Sergeants will have the capacity to send out these texts and, dependant on the nature of the outgoing information, it may be sent to a particular area or group or district-wide.
If you are interested in becoming involved in the initiative, please complete a registration form, and return to Chris Mulholland at the address below.
If you have not received a registration form by post please do not hesitate to contact Chris Mulholland at the address below.
All completed forms should be sent to Chris Mulholland and if you have any queries about this initiative or would like some further information please do not hesitate to contact him.
